Four youth wrestlers qualify for state at districts

Four Hillsboro Wrestling Club members finished in the top four in their age group and weight class at the District III Tournament in McPherson Saturday.The four wrestlers will be representing the club this weekend at the USA Wrestling Kansas Kids State Championships at the Topeka Expocentre.
The four wrestlers that qualified for state are:
• Devin Gomez, 10 & Under, 76 pounds, 2-1, second place; he lost his finals match, 1-0;
• Nathan Simhiser, 12 & Under, 165 pounds, third place;
• Jesse Meier, 14 & Under, 150 pounds, fourth place;
• Matt Reeh, high school division, 285 pounds, first place.

Edwards signs D-I baseball letter

The 2010 alum of Hillsboro High School has signed a national letter of intent to pitch for the Creighton University baseball team this fall.
Edwards was a starter at Cowley Community College as a freshman, finishing with a 7-1 record. He posted a 3.68 earned-run average, helping to lead the team to a 38-11 record.
Edwards will again be counted on as a starter at Cowley this season, looking to improve upon a fastball that is already in the high 80s.

Open gym offered 3 times this month

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission will be sponsoring open gym Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 23 and 30, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27.
Open gym is for both youth and adult basketball players who want to play in pick-up games or practice shooting.
Participants should bring a separate pair of clean basketball shoes to wear on the gym floor and must provide their own basketball.
HOA announces all-league honors

Five Marion football players received all-league honors from the Heart of America coaches for their play this past season.Senior Colten Johnson was picked as an offensive back and kick returner for the first-team offense, and as a linebacker and punter for the first-team defense.
Senior Jon Tacha was picked for the first-team offensive line and senior Dakin Ledford as a first-team defensive lineman.
Receiving second-team offensive honors were Ledford as a tight end and senior Cole Lewman as a quarterback.
Junior Brody Carroll was awarded a spot on the second team defense as a defensive back.

Four players from Peabody-Burns, three from Centre and two from Goessel received football all-league recognition from the coaches of the Wheat State League.Representing Peabody-Burns on the first team were senior Brody Kyle and juniors Austin Savage and Hunter Pickens.
Senior Wes Shaw received honorable mention.
For Centre, seniors Trevor Hageberg and Shane Methvin were picked for the first team and sophomore Kyle Methvin received honorable mention.
Goessel was represented on the first team by junior Trey Schmidt while junior Nic Buller received honorable mention.
