Body of missing boater recovered at Marion Reservoir

Nearly nine days after a catamaran capsized at Marion Reservoir, the body of missing boater Timothy Kliewer, 71, was recovered Saturday afternoon, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s office.Positive identification of the body was to be confirmed by an autopsy, but a close friend of the family confirmed early Saturday evening that the body was Kliewer’s.
At 12:39 p.m., Marion County Dispatch received a report of a body in Marion Reservoir. The body was located about one-half mile south of French Creek Cove along the west side of the reservoir. The body was recovered by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Corps of Engineers and the Marion County Sheriff’s office.

Hillsboro advances to state semifinals with win over Osage City

An 8-3 surge over the last half of the third quarter proved to be pivotal as Hillsboro opened the Class 3A state tournament Wednesday with a 40-32 win over Osage City in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.The win was a significant accomplishment for the young Trojans, who had been bounced from the tournament in the first round the previous two years under coach Nathan Hiebert.
Key to the victory was Hillsboro’s tenacious defense against a team that had a significant height advantage. The Indians’ 6-foot-1 Carly Spicer and 5-foot-11 Taylor Kimball, who combined for 21 points for the game.
