MHStrackHalsteadMeyer Nick Meyer won the discus throw at the Conrad Nightingale Invitational at Halstead Friday with a throw of 140 feet, 11 inches. Morgan Wheeler came in second at 135-5. Weather factors caused the Marion track and field team to take part in one of two scheduled meets last week.

Halstead—With Sterling’s CKTL meet canceled last Tuesday, the Warriors traveled Friday to Halstead for the Conrad Nightingale Invitational.

“We had a good meet,” coach Grant Thierolf said. “The boys’ team barely hung on for a win, with our throwers and field event people once again leading the way.”

The Warrior boys claimed first place among 15 schools with 86 points ahead of Berean Academy (81) and Hutchinson-Trinity (76).

The boys were aided by a number of top-three finishes. Earning gold medals were: Nick Meyer in discus (140 feet, 11 inches), James Jones in the triple jump (42-8.5) and Zach Hammond in pole...

TCbsbSterlingLambert Tabor’s starter, Matt Lambert, throws a pitch in Game 2 against Sterling Saturday. The Bluejays lost that game, 6-4, and went on to split the series with the KCAC-leading Warriors to remain in second place in the conference. The Tabor baseball team remained one game behind KCAC leader Sterling after splitting two doubleheaders with the Warriors last week.

“It was an outstanding series,” coach Mark Standiford said. “Sterling is a very good team, and both teams played well. I am disappointed in the split; we were hoping to take three of four. So now we do not control our destiny.”

Sterling—After weather caused the first doubleheader at Sterling to be rescheduled later in the week, Tabor hosted the Warriors Saturday. The Bluejays (20-4, 30-12) defeated the Sterling (21-3, 39-11), 8-7, in Game 1.

A three-run homer in the top of the second inning gave the Warriors an early lead.

But Tabor answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning when...
