Tabor tennis concludes regular season

Tabor faced three conference opponents last week to wrap up the regular season.

The men hold a 4-3 KCAC record (6-9 overall) for fourth place, while the women are fifth at 3-4 (5-9 overall).

Ottawa—After facing Bethany earlier in the day Saturday, Tabor played a rescheduled game against Ottawa at home. Both the men and the women came back from earlier losses to sweep the Braves.

The Tabor men won, 7-2.

“Key victories were David Simmet at No. 1 singles, Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort, who won at No. 2 doubles and each (won) their singles (matches),” coach John Ruder said. “Also the brothers Brucks—Jake and Sam—who won at No. 3 doubles as well as taking their singles matches.”

HHS baseball splits with Smoky Valley

Lucas Sinclair fires a pitch against Smoky Valley in Game 1 of the April 15 doubleheader. Sinclair and the Trojans went on to win, 6-5, but lost Game 2, 5-1, for a 4-4 season record. Hillsboro scored two runs on only one hit in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in the first game of a rescheduled doubleheader with Smoky Valley April 15.

Smoky Valley bounced back with a 5-1 victory in Game 2, leaving the Trojans with a 4-4 season record. The games were postponed by weather April 9.

In the opener, the Vikings jumped to a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs off pitcher Lucas Sinclair, who was pitching in relief of starter Dylan Nelson.

AREA BASEBALL

Canton-Galva—The Eagles split a doubleheader with Inman Tuesday. Canton-Galva dropped Game 1, 15-5, in six innings.

Inman scored four runs in both the first and second innings to claim an 8-1 lead.

Canton-Galva added four runs in the fourth inning, but the effort was not enough to take the lead.

Connor Farnham, Ryan Grant and Kaden Littrell each made one hit and one RBI. Tanner Klingensmith and Jacob Dailey also contributed one RBI apiece.

On the mound, Klingensmith was the Eagles’ losing pitcher.

Canton-Galva followed with a 9-7 victory in Game 2, using a six-run second inning to claim the lead for good.

Centre—The Cougars were scheduled to compete at the Council Grove Invitational Thursday, but it was canceled because of weather and will not be rescheduled.

The Cougars did participate in the Central Christian CKTL Quint at Buhler last Tuesday.

As a team, the boys placed fifth with 51 points, just behind Sedgwick at 52. Herington won with 80 points.

The team was led by three first-place finishes: Ty Simons in the 110 high hurdles (17.9) and 300 intermediate hurdles (46.8) and the 4x100 team of Grant Srajer, Justin Deines, Conner Montgomery and Houston Svoboda (47.3).

The girls, meanwhile, finished third with 53 points, behind Sedgwick (122) and Fairfield (75).

MHS softball team wins 3 of 4 games

The Marion softball team played two of three scheduled doubleheaders last week, with the already-rescheduled Canton-Galva games being postponed again because of weather.

Trinity Catholic—Marion traveled to Trinity Catholic Friday and split the doubleheader.

“Unfortunately, I think it was our mental game that let us down that night,” coach Jennifer Felvus said. “It isn’t anything we can’t come back from, but it is a frustrating loss for the team as a whole.

“We just didn’t play the same game we have been playing, especially offensively.”

The Warriors won Game 1, 10-4.

Marion scored one run in the top of the first inning and following with a five-run third inning to take a 6-4 lead.
