The Trojans, who came as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, started slowly against No. 7 Halstead, but built steam as the game progressed thanks in no small part to Halstead fielding errors.
Leading only 1-0 after one inning, Hillsboro added three runs in the second and five more in the third—three of them on a bases-loaded double by Danae Bina—for a 9-0 lead.

Lovelady qualifies for MHS state golf
Written by Janae Rempel Tuesday, 14 May 2013 13:40
“It was our first tournament this year without turtlenecks and long underwear, but despite the warmer weather, high scores were the norm,” coach Thane Schwartz said.
As a team, the Warriors finished in fourth place with a score of 402 behind Osage City (368), Burlington (375) and Eureka (392).
“Many succumbed to the golf gods around the greens,” Schwartz said. “The greens were super fast.
“If you putted by the hole on a slope, your next shot was probably a wedge.”
Hogan Lovelady paved the way for the Warriors, qualifying for the state tournament with an 18-hole score of 87, good for fourth place.

Advancing to the quarterfinals, the senior then defeated Shawn Nulik of Chaparral, 6-1, 6-3. Nulik entered the tournament with an 18-13 record.
“Harry played well, winning points from the baseline and at the net, demonstrating the nice all-around tennis game he has,” coach Stuart Holmes said.
Faber then faced undefeated Layne Bieberle of Central Plains, who was 30-0 at the start of the day. Faber dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision, and Bieberle went on...
