Having seen her teams grow from 14 to 22 runners after one season at the helm, Marion cross-country coach Bethany Carlson has reason to be optimistic.
The girls’ team has grown from six to 10 and will be led by Camille Christensen (personal record 15 minutes 59 seconds), a junior who finished fourth at the Mid-Central Activities Association league meet, eighth at the regional meet and 21st at the Class 3A state meet a year ago.

Returning members of Hillsboro High School’s 2007 Class 3A girls’ state track and field championship team were recognized during the all-school assembly that kicked off the new academic year last Wednesday. Head coach Dennis Boldt (far right) lauded the effort and accomplishment of the athletes. Pictured from left are Shelby Koons, Abi Humber, Chelsea Bebermeyer, Dakota Kaufman and Tiffany Rooker. Not present were the three seniors who graduated in spring: JuliAnne Chisholm, Hannah Marsh and Tina Frick. The state track meet in Wichita occurs in late May, after the academic year has ended, which precludes an all-school celebration at that time.
