MHS runs at Chapman

Ryan Jones turned in the top time for the Marion boys’ cross country team, which ran at Chapman last week.Jones placed third by completing the race in 18 minutes, 57 seconds. Louis Holt (19:08) placed sixth and Isaac Hett (20:13) 16th.
They were followed by Corey Seacat (21st, 20:55), Brandon Meierhoff (24th, 21:06), Brady Hudson (30th, 21:39), Michael Kirkpatrick (33rd, 21:59), Marshall Ragland (42nd, 23:16), Derek Stuchlik (53rd, 24:19), Adam Molleker (58th, 25:06) and Olle Gemfors (67th, 27:31).
Kirkpatrick, Stuchlik, Molleker and Gemfors all ran personal-best times.
For the girls, Camille Christensen claimed seventh place with a time of 17:39. Also winning medals were Tacy Taylor (10th, 18:09), Jaclyn Deforest (14th, 18:46)...

CentreQuivera Heights defeated the Cougars 58-0 on Friday. The Cougars face off with Burrton this week at 7 p.m.Canton-Galva
The Eagles dropped Sedgwick 35-12 on the strength of two touchdown runs apiece by Ted Regehr and Andrew Westbrook.
Regehr opened the scoring with a 15-yard run and Westbrook made it 14-0 on a 25-yard burst.
Westbrook scored again from 16 yards out in the second quarter and added a 2-point conversion run for a 22-0 halftime lead. Regehr scored from 6 yards out to start the third quarter, making it 29-0.
Sedgwick tallied twice later in the third, but a 9-yard pass from Regehr to Westbrook in the fourth quarter sealed the win.
Westbrook carried 20 times for 143 yards, and Regehr completed four of six passes for...

CentreThe Cougars finished second to Hope at the Eisenhower League volleyball tournament at Hope.
Centre, the fourth seed, defeated fifth seed Flint Hills (25-17, 25-14) and sixth seed St. Xavier (25-9, 25-12) before losing to top seed Hope (23-25, 9-25).
In bracket play, Centre defeated second seed Wakefield (26-28, 25-22, 25-16) to earn a second shot at the tournament hosts in the title game. Hope defeated the Cougars a second time to secure the league crown.
Leann Pankratz totaled 42 kills, an average of 3.8 per game. Amy Hajek made good on just shy of 84 percent of her attempted sets to set up 29 kills on 110 assists, an average of 10 assists and 2.6 for kill per game.

The Hillsboro volleyball team didn’t win the top prize at the always-competitive Canton-Galva Invitational on Saturday. But coming home with a 4-1 record, a third-place finish and two wins over Hesston was nice consolation.
“I thought it was a good day for us and we gained some confidence from it,” coach Sandy Arnold said as her team improved to 17-4 for the season.
