HHSsbKingLucero681 Kennedy Lucero steals third in the fifth inning of Game 1. She scored when the throw got past the third baseman. The Trojans defeated the Eagles 13-2 and 8-0 to improve to 5-1 for the season. The Trojans were scheduled to play Sterling Tuesday, then have doubleheaders scheduled with Smoky Valley on Thursday and Canton-Galva on Friday. Sophomore Julie Sinclair pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Hillsboro softball team to an 8-0 victory and sweep of its doubleheader Friday at Kingman.

Combined with a 13-2 victory in Game 1, the Trojans are now 5-1 for the season.

Following a five-inning run-rule performance in Game 1, the Trojans struggled to score early in Game 2. But a Bradli Nowak double with one out in the fourth inning sparked a six-run burst that put the game firmly in Hillsboro’s control.

Madison Klein drove in Nowak with a single, then Sinclair doubled to score Klein. Emily Jost contributed a single and Kennedy Lucero a double to fuel the fire.

The Trojans scored their final two runs in the seventh inning when Danae Bina led off with her fifth...

TCsbYorkBowen Ashton Bowen throws to first during Tabor’s doubleheader at York College (Neb.) Monday. The Bluejays split the games, dropping Game 1, 4-2, and winning, 12-11, in Game 2. The Tabor softball team picked up four conference wins last week with wins over Bethel and McPherson and split two games at York Monday to improve to 6-6 in the KCAC, 12-22 overall.

“We keep on battling and are making the sure outs to keep us in the game and give us a chance to win,” coach Suzanne Unruh said. “We have had timely hitting to score runs when we have opportunities to score.”

York—Tabor traveled to York College Monday, where the Bluejays split a doubleheader.

Tabor lost Game 1, 4-2.

The Bluejays’ two runs came in the top of the fourth inning.

HHSbsbKingFaulCatchSteal712 Jordan Faul prepares to grab a late throw in an attempt to nab the Kingman base runner during Friday's first game. Backing up the play is Trojan second baseman David Dick. Defensive mistakes proved to be Hillsboro’s Achilles’ heel as the Trojans dropped a baseball doubleheader Friday at Kingman, 12-11 and 11-8.

The sweep evened Hillsboro’s record at 3-3 for the season.

Game 1 was particularly frustrating as the Trojans built an 8-3 lead after 31⁄2 innings behind the pitching of Jordan Faul. But a pair of errors contributed to a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning on only one hit.

After Kingman tied the game in the fifth, the Trojans bounced back to take an 11-8 lead through 51⁄2 inning with a three-run rally fueled by six walks from Eagle pitchers.

But with two more Hillsboro errors, Kingman rallied again to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, then scored the winning run in...

MHSbsbClayCtrEthan Ethan Hett knocks out a hit in the top of the fourth inning of Game 1 against Clay Center. Hett contributed one hit and one run in two at-bats and had three RBIs in Marion’s 13-0 victory. On the mound, Hett pitched all five innings of Game 1, giving up three hits and no runs while walking two and striking out five. The Marion baseball team kept its win streak alive with two shutout victories over Clay Center Friday to boost its season record to 8-0. The doubleheader at Canton-Galva scheduled for last Tuesday was postponed because of weather.

Clay Center—The Warriors coasted to victory in Marion Friday night in two games originally scheduled to be played at Clay Center but moved to Marion because of a wet field.

“We did a very good job in both games,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “We actually played our first errorless doubleheader of the year.”

Playing as the visitors, Marion won Game 1, 13-0, using a five-run first inning to take control of the game from the start, and building up to 13 runs over the course of five innings.

Canton-Galva—The Eagle baseball team traveled to Bennington Tuesday, dropping both games of the doubleheader to the Bulldogs.

Ryan Grant knocked out one hit that batted in three runs. Chris Miller had one hit and two RBIs, while Connor Farnham contributed three hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, Farnham was starting and losing pitcher. Jacob Dailey came in to pitch two innings of relief.
