Clay Center got on the board early in Game 1 with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. It added five runs in the fourth while holding the Warriors scoreless.

Marion’s Megan Richmond pitched four innings. She threw 16 first-pitch strikes and had three strikeouts.

In Game 2, Clay Center scored two runs in the first inning then added five in the second for a 7-0 lead. The Tigers added one...

The Marion golf team placed seventh at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Salina Friday with a score of 402.

Trinity Catholic won the invitational with a score of 350.

Wiley Lundy led the way for the Warriors with an 18-hole score of 92 for 12th place.

Also competing were Hogan Lovelady (99), Dylan Goebel (105), Jared Hague (106) and Brant Stephenson (120).

“If you harbor the philosophy that peaking early in the golf season is not a good idea, then I would say we are right on schedule,” coach Thane Schwartz said, adding that the below-freezing temperatures at tee-off contributed to some stiff and awkward swings.

The team did not compete at Emporia Municipal Tuesday as mentioned last week.
