Flash finish third in state softball tourney

  The Hillsboro Flash placed third in the Under-10 softball state tournament in Wichita this weekend. With 15 teams competing in the double-elimination event, the Flash went 5-2 after being eliminated by the Wichita Chaos on Sunday morning. Durham’s ’63 state champion team meets for pre-induction reunion

The 1963 state champion Durham Hornets gathered Saturday at the Durham Community Center in preparation for their induction into the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Author Steven Michael Farney was present with his book “Title Towns! Class BB Boys Basketball Champions of Kansas,” which documents the history of all 17 class BB state champions. The ‘63 Hornets went 26-0 and will join undefeated Class BB state champions Dwight (‘66) and Tescott (‘67) in the KCBA hall of fame. Former Tabor College standout Martin de Boer recently signed to play basketball professionally with a team in The Netherlands provincial capital of Rotterdam.

De Boer transferred to Tabor from Cloud County Community College in fall 2004 and made a huge impact on the 2005 Bluejays.

Standing 6 feet, 7 inches, de Boer led the team in rebounding, averaging more than five per game and was the squad’s third-leading scorer, averaging over 10 points.

 The Hillsboro Flash, a 10-and-Under softball team sponsored by On Location Photography and Emprise Bank, went 3-0 this weekend and advanced to the state tournament. Hillsboro beat McPherson 6-1, Salina 15-0 and Hutchinson 8-2.
