Hett signs to play basketball at Bethel

Marion High School senior Jordan Hett signed a letter of intent Monday to play basketball next year at Bethel College. Hett was a first-team all-league selection his junior and senior years, and he earned second-team all-league honors his sophomore year. In addition, Hett was named to the Wichita Eagle’s 2012 all-state second-team as a junior. During his career at Marion, Hett scored 1,074 points, contributed 197 total rebounds and had 120 assists. Seated with Hett are his parents, Gary and Jo Hett. Standing are (from left) Jeff McMillin, MHS basketball coach; and Alonzo Jamison, Bethel basketball coach.

Hillsboro High School senior Micah Mashburn signs a letter of intent to play football this fall at Tabor College. Seated with him are his parents, Cathy and Don Mashburn. Standing are Mike Gardner, Tabor head coach, and Lance Sawyer, head coach at Hillsboro. Micah joined the team as a senior and played wide receiver and defensive back for the 10-1 Trojans.

Marion High School senior Ethan Hett recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball at McPher­son College next year. He plans to pitch for the Bulldogs. Seated with him are his parents, David and Diane Hett. Standing behind them are Andrew Ehling, head baseball coach at McPherson, and Roger Schroeder, Marion head baseball coach.

Centre—The Cougars competed at the Class 1A regional meet at Burlington Friday.

The girls qualified for four events at the state meet May 24-25 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita by placing among the top four. Shelby Makovec was third in the 3,200 (13:44.69), Nellie Kassebaum fourth in the 3,200 (14:21.98) and Brenna Shields was fourth in the 100 (13.85) and the long jump (15 feet, 71⁄2 inches).

The Cougar boys qualified the 4x100 team for state. Grant Srajer, Justin Deines, Conner Montgomery and Houston Svoboda placed fourth in 46.69.

Goessel—The Bluebirds competed at the Class 1A regional meet at Burlington Friday.

AREA GOLF

Centre—Kodey Johnson and Dylan Svitak competed at the state golf tournament in Emporia Monday after qualifying at the Pretty Prairie regional tournament May 13.

Johnson carded an 18-hole score of 87, good for fifth place. Svitak finished two strokes behind at 89 and earned seventh.

Rounding out the team were: Karl Riffel (116) and Nathaniel Engler (119).

Goessel—The Bluebirds competed in the Pretty Prairie regional golf tournament May 13.

Trey Schmidt shot a 95 for an 18-hole score of 95, good for 11th place. Also competing were Tyler Schultz (97), Lucas Hiebert (104), Zach Showalter (108), Reece Hiebert (109) and Dan Smucker (112).
