“Dreaming in Color” will be the theme of this year’s Tabor homecoming festivities Oct. 4-7.
“This event is a great way to bring Tabor College and the Hillsboro community together,” said Marlene Fast, director of alumni relations. “We value having the community come to our campus and would love to have everyone join us.”
Some of the traditional homecoming activities occurring this year include: Music Fest, children’s activities by the science building, a fun run/walk, the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and a variety of sporting events.
An annual favorite, the Dutch Lunch, will feature a delicious German buffet in the gymnasium.
For details on activities and meal prices, consult the website (tabor.edu/alumni/homecoming) or contact the alumni office at 620-947-3121, ext. 1706, to reserve meal tickets. Class reunions are planned for Saturday after the football game.
Performances of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The Wednesday performance was added recently to enable more people to see the production. Reserve tickets are required. To purchase them, contact the student life office at 620-947-3121, ext. 1033.
“‘Joseph’ was enthusiastically received by Tabor’s homecoming audiences nine years ago and is, in a sense, back by popular demand,” said Judy Harder, production director and professor of communications and theater.
Friday afternoon and Saturday, Tabor art students will display the work in the college library. The public is invited to see the display and meet the artists between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Oct.5.
Golfers can participate in the Tabor College Golf Classic Oct. 5 at Reflection Ridge in Wichita. Coffee and doughnuts will be served starting at 8:30 a.m.; the shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. Because of limited space, call the alumni office for reservations for the four- or five-person scramble. Hillsboro Ford will be sponsoring a hole-in-one contest with the chance to win a car.
At 6:30 p.m. Friday, alumni are encouraged to participate in the Festival Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita, where alumni honorary awards will be presented. Tickets are required and can be purchased through the alumni office.
Several sporting events will take place during the weekend in Hillsboro. The Bluejay volleyball team will host Southwestern College at 5 p.m. Friday; the football team will play Kansas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday. An alumni baseball game is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
The volleyball team will be selling cinnamon rolls at Java Jays in the student center from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
For families with young children, Tabor’s education department will be offering activities for kids in preschool through sixth grade from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Some of the events require tickets; check the website for the latest details.
“We really hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity,” said Fast. “It is a great time for former Hillsboro students and Hillsboro parents to reconnect with their Tabor College, see friends from years gone by and enjoy the fun times on campus once again.”
