Seventh-grader Abigail Sechrist won the Hillsboro Middle School geography bee Jan. 10. She is pictured above flanked by eighth-grader Callie Linnens, who finished second, and seventh-grader Brodie Rathbone, who placed third. Four students from each of the three grade levels earned the opportunity to compete in the bee. Unlike school spelling bees, where the local winners compete in a county-wide contest and then possibly state, the winner of the geography must complete a hand-written test and submit it for grading. State contestants are selected according to test scores.
