The GAP Culture Club at Hillsboro High School sponsored its second annual all-high school “Dodge, Duck & Dive” dodgeball tournament Friday, Feb. 1. Ten teams with 10 players per team—with a three-girl, three-guy minimum—competed for fame and prizes. In the top photo, the two teams in the championship round make a mad scramble for the balls to start the final game. The winning team, called The Naries, was captained by Shaq Thiessen; the runner-up team was Dirty Mike & the Boys captained by Micha Mashburn. Danae Bina and Austin Cross were crowned “King & Queen Dodgeball.” The theme is a take off on the word “duck,” so trophies and awards were highly gaudy duck decoys decorated by the GAP Club members, and referees were dressed in duck hunting camo gear. In the lower photo, spectators (from left) Katie Rempel, Kori Arnold and Carly Loewen enjoy their duck bill noise makers while waiting for the tournament to begin.
