Written by Hillsboro Free Press Tuesday, 17 April 2007 13:27Shin-hee Chin, assistant professor of art and design at Tabor College, recently won honorable mention at the Wichita Center for the Arts “Fiber Directions” art show, featuring contemporary fiber art. Chin’s piece, “Winter,” was chosen from among 80 other works to receive the award in the nationally juried show.
“When I create artwork, it’s a process that carries much emotional value for me,” Chin said. “Being the recipient of recognition is always an honor, and this time is no exception.”
Inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:11, “Winter” is one in a series of four pieces representing the various seasons of a woman’s life, Chin said.
Chin’s piece will be on display at the Wichita Center for the Arts until May 20. Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. Admission is free.
Additional work by Chin can be viewed at her solo show, “Stillness in Movement,” at the Brick Street Gallery in downtown Lindsborg until May 20. The show features the three corresponding pieces to “Winter,” as well as other new pieces such as “September 11.”
