USD 410 schools identify top spellers

The USD 410 elementary and middle schools conducted their annual spelling bees Thursday. Each school began with around 22 competitors to find three finalists. The top two spellers will represent Hillsboro at the Marion County spelling bee Feb. 6 in Peabody, and the third-place finisher is the alternate. The middle school finalists in the lower photo are: eighth-grader Jacob Schlehuber, runner-up; eighth-grader Mesa Merrell, first place; and seventh-grader Sarah Jost, alternate.
