Schools gather in Hillsboro for district FFA dairy contest

FFA schools from the Kansas South Central District participated Nov. 19 in FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.
Buhler won both the “A team” competition among 13 schools and “Greenhand” (freshmen) titles among 12 schools. Centre placed sixth in the “A” division and 10th in the Greenhand competition.
Hillsboro placed 11th in “A” and seventh in Greenhand. Marion-Florence placed third in Greenhand.
Individually, Connor Davis of the Goessel FFA chapter placed ninth in the “A” division. In Greenhand, Marion’s William Adame placed sixth and Elizabeth Meyer 10th while Levi Mendoza of Hillsboro placed eighth.
Contest participants were required to evaluate and place six classes of dairy cows and heifers. They also had to prepare and present a set of oral reasons.
In addition to Adame and Meyer, Marion’s Greenhand team included Nicholas Stuchlik, Kayla Kroupa, Aaron Molleker, Dylan Pippin, Remington Putter, Morgan Radtke and Malachi Sippel.
Competing on Hillsboro’s senior team were Valerie Klassen, Andrew Meier, Jesse Meier and Dallas Jost.
Members of the Greenhand team were SaRae Roberts, Jared Dyck, Layne Heiser, Shannon Heiser, Levi Mendoza and Bradon Truitt.
In the dairy products portion of the contest, Erin Loewen, Jordyn Siebert, Tyler Proffitt. Valerie Klassen and Dallas Jost were on the senior team while the Greenhand team remained the same.
