Marlene Wall, Tabor alumna and associate dean and president of LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania, will provide the commencement address for Tabor College Saturday, May 19.
The ceremony will be at Joel H. Wiens Stadium at 10 a.m. In case of inclement weather the event will be in the college gymnasium.
There are 127 candidates for degrees from the Hillsboro and Wichita campuses.
Wall is a recipient of the Tabor College Alumni Medallion Award (1996-1997), an annual regional teaching award called BEST Golden Apple Award (1994) and was named a Tabor College Merit Scholar (1981).
In announcing Wall as this year’s speaker, President Jules Glanzer expressed interest in showing what the future might hold in store.
“I am committed to inviting distinguished Tabor alumni to return to campus to speak at our commencement,” he said. “I want our graduates to experience Tabor alumni who have a record of significant accomplishments and are involved in a life of service.”
Wall, who was named president of LCC International this spring, is a global citizen born in Latin America and has significant global experience.
She completed her doctorate in curriculum and instruction at Kansas State University in 2000. She earned her master of arts in linguistics from Southern Illinois University and her bachelor degree in English/secondary education from Tabor.
After advancing in the Wichita public school system to become the director of a 5,000 student English as a Second Language program, Wall responded to LCC’s invitation to serve the university full-time.
Since coming to Lithuania, she has remained current in her professional discipline, presenting at international conferences and consulting in various countries.
