Trojan Chess Guild competes in first USCF tournament

Six members of the Hillsboro High School Chess Guild display the medals they received by competing in their first U.S. Chess Federation sanctioned tournament Saturday in Topeka. Forty-eight high school students across Kansas competed in the first tournament of the season. Each Guild member placed in the top 20 of his prospective division with Ben Bosworth medaling third in his division. The team’s next tournament will take place in Lindsborg Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Karpov International School of Chess. Pictured are: (left to right) Michael Christian, Cody Blackketter, John Bartel, Josh Elliott, Bosworth and Matt Richert. The is the second year for the Chess Guild at HHS.
