Candidates file for elections county-wide

Hillsboro voters will have one contested race in April's local election based on the candidates who filed by the Jan. 23 deadline.

Matthew O. Hiebert and Shane Marler filed for the East Ward seat currently held by Hiebert.

Mayor Delores Dalke will run unopposed for her 13th term as mayor while Robert Watson filed for the West Ward seat currently held by Len Coryea, who did not file.

Four members of the current USD 410 Board of Education will run unopposed for their respective seats: Debra Geis, Position 1; Dale W. Klassen, Position 2; Mark Rooker, Position 3 and Roderick Koons, Position 7.

The position of mayor in Marion, meanwhile, drew considerable interest with four candidates filing: David W. Colburn, Marion "Nick" Nickelson, Mary Olson and incumbent Martin Tice.

A primary will be required to trim the number of candidates to two.

Four uncontested candidates filed for four seats on the Marion-Florence USD 408 Board of Education: Christopher Sprowls, Position 1; Kathy Meierhoff, Position 2; Ronald Kirlpatrick Jr., Position 3; and Sarah Cope, Position 7.
