Stultz ceramics featured at Bethel show



Ceramics by Grady Stultz, Bethel College senior from Goessel, were on display May 3-19 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery on the Bethel College campus in North Newton. He was one of five students whose work was featured at the annual Bethel College Senior Art Exhibit. Stultz, son of Harold and Jennifer Stultz, graduated May 19 with a degree in art.

• Danielle Hagen will be graduating from Wichita State Univer­sity with a master’s degree in social work. Her undergraduate studies were at the University of Kansas with a major in psychology and a minor in anthropology. She is the daughter of Terry and Cheryl Hagen, Hillsboro.

HES student’s work featured on Wichita TV

Charlie Major, a fourth-grader at Hillsboro Elementary School, had his work featured May 18 on Green Screen Adven­tures, which was broadcast on Me-TV.

Me-TV can be seen on KAKE-TV, Channel 10.2 (Cox 669).

“We applaud students around the country who create and write stories,” said Dan Wall, KAKE vice president and general manager, “and we applaud Green Screen Adventures for bringing these stories to life.”

Green Screen Adventures is a national award-winning children’s television show that selects writing and illustrations by students and brings them to life.

Poster winner helps plant tree

As her classmates watch, fifth-grader Callie Arnold dumps some mulch around the freshly planted frontier elm tree in front of the Hillsboro Elementary School May 14. Supervising the initiative is Tim Donnell of the Kansas Forestry Service. Callie Arnold was pretty confident about her chances of winning this year’s Kansas Arbor Day Poster Contest.

“I knew it,” said the Hillsboro Elementary School fifth-grader. “I was so into it. I love drawing, I love being in art class.”

Turns out she was right. Callie’s poster was judged the best among the six district winners

“I studied at school, and there was a packet,” Callie said about the inspiration for her poster. “When you flip through the page, there were facts and information. So I really paid attention.”

Tabor College graduates largest class yet at 194

Hillsboro High School alum Michael Klaassen receives his honor cords from David Faber, faculty chair, during Tabor’s commencement exercises May 18 in Joel H. Wiens Stadium. Klaassen spoke during the program as a representative of the Hillsboro campus graduates. The largest graduating class in Tabor College history received degrees Saturday, May 18, during commencement ceremonies at Joel H. Wiens Stadium.

Of the 194 degrees conferred, 127 were bachelor of arts, 11 master of business administration, 13 bachelor of science, 42 bachelor of science in nursing and one associate of arts degrees.

The program opened with an invocation by Anna Reid, representing the School of Adult and Graduate Studies.

Michael Klaassen spoke as the representative of Hillsboro campus graduates, while Leilani Schenkel spoke on behalf of the graduates from the Wichita campus. Tynan Honn, president of the senior class, presented the graduating class response.
