The FFA livestock judging team from Hillsboro High placed second in the South Central District during HCC Aggie Days last month hosted by Hutchinson Community College. Tabor dedicates new residence hall

 8TCHarmsDedHarmsFullView943 Wilmer Harms, a physician from North Newton, reflects on the path that led to the construction of Harms Residence Hall on the Tabor College campus. The building was dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday morning. About 100 people turned out Saturday forenoon for the dedication and ribbon-cutting event for Harms Residence Hall at Tabor College.

The building was made possible by a donation from North Newton physician Wilmer Harms to honor the memory of his late wife, Esther. A long-time supporter of Tabor, Harms has contributed time, treasure and talents to the school.

In his remarks, Harms said former Tabor Larry Nikkel had first challenged the couple to “put their name on a building” by funding its construction.

Harms said he turned to his wife and said, “That will never happen.” But she had encouraged him to think of the challenge as a “seed”; in the end, they gathered the $160,000 needed to initiate the project.

Hillsboro High FFA member Kale Arnold brings a young goat closer to Arnold Regier during the petting zoo that the FFAers conducted last Thursday at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. Arnold and Taylor Carlson were in charge of the goat and a dairy calf, Lauren Geis and Lisa Geis handled the miniature horse and hog, Bryce Roberts managed lambs and Nathan Unruh chickens.

 

 

 

Molleker awarded scholarship for FHSU

Aaron Molleker, Marion, a 2013 Marion High School graduate, has been awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award to attend Fort Hays State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Molleker is the son of Don Molleker and Robyn Brooks, Marion.

The scholarship process for the 2013-14 year will continue into the fall. Many students who have already accepted some scholarships continue to apply for and accept different awards.
