Tabor announces cast and crew for homecoming musical 'Honk!'

Tabor College has announced the cast and crew for its homecoming production of “Honk!”Performances will take place Oct. 18 to 21 in the Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium. The Oct. 18 performance begins at 7 p.m. Performances on the 19th and 20th begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday, Oct. 21 performance begins at 2 p.m.
The pun-filled musical comedy is based on the tale of the ugly duckling.
Judy Harder, associate professor of communications and drama, is directing the show.

Trojan Chess Guild competes in first USCF tournament

Six members of the Hillsboro High School Chess Guild display the medals they received by competing in their first U.S. Chess Federation sanctioned tournament Saturday in Topeka. Forty-eight high school students across Kansas competed in the first tournament of the season. Each Guild member placed in the top 20 of his prospective division with Ben Bosworth medaling third in his division. The team’s next tournament will take place in Lindsborg Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Karpov International School of Chess. Pictured are: (left to right) Michael Christian, Cody Blackketter, John Bartel, Josh Elliott, Bosworth and Matt Richert. The is the second year for the Chess Guild at HHS.
Centre FFA Greenhands place high in district event

The Centre High School FFA hosted the South Central District Greenhand Conference on Sept. 24. A total of 370 Greenhands—first-year members—from 26 schools participated in the informational event. Five Centre Greenhands placed in the top 10 spots in the Greenhand Information test. Rudy Wiebe to appear at Tabor

The public is invited to spend an evening with award-winning Mennonite author Rudy Wiebe at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Chapel-Auditorium on the campus of Tabor College. Admission is free.Wiebe, author of “Peace Shall Destroy Many,” “The Temptations of Big Bear, and “A Discovery of Stranger,” will be the featured speaker at the 56th annual Menno Simons Lecture series from Oct. 28-30 at Bethel College, North Newton.
He will spend the following day as a guest lecturer on the Tabor College campus in Hillsboro.

HHS students choose candidates for homecoming

Candidates for the Hillsboro High School homecoming were announced during an assembly last week. The girls chosen to be queen candidates are (from left) Suzy Lindsay, Meghan Jost, Audrey Weinbrenner, Amy Neufeld and Rachelle Goldsby. The boys picked as the potential king are (from left) Cody McMillen, Gavin Serene, Mathew Brown, Jacob Yoder and Spencer Brown. The crowning ceremony will be Friday at 6:30 p.m., prior to the football game with Ellinwood at Reimer Field. The public is invited to a parade and pep rally at 2:45 p.m. at Main Street and Grand Avenue, and to a tailgate party at Reimer Field beginning at 5:30 p.m.
