Hillsboro FFA members bring petting zoo to Parkside Homes

Hillsboro High FFA member Kale Arnold brings a young goat closer to Arnold Regier during the petting zoo that the FFAers conducted last Thursday at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. Arnold and Taylor Carlson were in charge of the goat and a dairy calf, Lauren Geis and Lisa Geis handled the miniature horse and hog, Bryce Roberts managed lambs and Nathan Unruh chickens.

 

 

 

Molleker awarded scholarship for FHSU

Aaron Molleker, Marion, a 2013 Marion High School graduate, has been awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award to attend Fort Hays State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Molleker is the son of Don Molleker and Robyn Brooks, Marion.

The scholarship process for the 2013-14 year will continue into the fall. Many students who have already accepted some scholarships continue to apply for and accept different awards.

 

 

MHS vocal groups win top awards

The Marion Boys Ensemble and Marion Singers won the first- and second-place trophies, respectively, for schools with 245 or less students at the Worlds of Fun Festival of Choirs this past Sunday.

“The judges were impressed with the quality of musicianship shown by a school our size,” said director David Clark.

The Boys Ensemble and Singers performed selections that will be presented at the state music festival this weekend at Southeast of Saline.

 

   

HHS TSA wins state awards; aims for nationals

The Hillsboro chapter of the Technology Student Association attended the Kansas TSA state competitive events conference in Salina, March 28-30, and came home with several awards.

In Dragster Design, Erich Herbel placed first and Garrett Foster second.

In Structural Engineering, Chase Meisinger and Erich Herbel placed first.

In Flight Endurance, Herbel placed second.

In Manufacturing Prototype, Franklin Jost finished third.

In Webmaster, Reece Berens placed fourth.

Also, Jordan Bezdeck was tournament champion at the Kansas TSA VEX Sack Attack.

Tyler Profitt was a finalist in Programming Skills, and Herbel was Robot Skills finalist.

MHS teams fare well in HCC Aggie Days events

MHSAgMechCDE Members of Marion’s winning agricultural technology team at the Hutchinson Community College Aggie Days are (from left) Dylan Carpenter, Clint Kroupa, Jacob Cope, Aaron Molleker and Nick Meyer. Students from Marion High School competed in four South Central District Agriculture Technology Management Career Development Events on Tuesday, April 16 at the state fairgrounds in Hutchinson.

The contests, part of the Hutchinson Community College Aggie Days, were in the areas of agricultural technology, livestock, veterinary sciences and entomology.

Ag technology—Marion’s A-team placed first overall in the contest, which was sponsored jointly by the ag power division and the welding department at HCC.

Aaron Molleker received first place individually, Clint Kroupa second, Nick Meyer third and Jacob Cope fourth.
