Athletics the focus of Tabor’s annual spring showcase

The Tabor College athletic and alumni and parent relations departments will host the annual spring showcase Saturday.Tabor athletic fans and supporters are invited to a fun-filled day that will feature six of the Bluejay athletic teams in action.
The day begins at 7:30 a.m. with an alumni golf outing at the Hillsboro Golf Course. To register, contact the alumni office at 620-947-3121, ext. 1706. Funds raised at the outing will be used to purchase the Bibles presented at commencement.
The football scrimmage will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by the volleyball scrimmage in the gym at 11 a.m.

Goessel board reviews building plans

The Goessel school board welcomed new board member Kyle Funk, who was elected in the April 2 election, to its April 8 meeting.Lynette Duerksen, Kelly Booton and James Wiens were all re-elected to another term on the board.
Voters also approved the school bond issue. More than 90 percent of the school district’s voters voted for a $3.3 million bond issue for school improvements, with 337 in favor, 29 opposed. As a result of the favorable bond election, the board approved a bond sale resolution at the board meeting.
The resolution states that the money will be used to construct classrooms and lab areas for vocational agriculture, science education and family and consumer science.

Hispanic church leader will be CMBS speaker

Honoring the 75th anniversary of the Latin America Mennonite Brethren (LAMB) Conference, Rolando Mireles, Rio Grande City, Texas, will be the keynote speaker at the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies annual meeting Saturday, April 27.The CMBS will also offer a tour of area sites of historic significance.
Mireles has been active within the church for the past 41 years, and has served in many leadership positions including chairman, treasurer, secretary and board member of the LAMB conference, a member of national conference boards, the Tabor College Board of Directors and the International Community of Mennonite Brethren.
