Marion soloists and small groups compete at state festival April 27

Marion High School music students performed at the State Solo and Small Group Festival Saturday, April 27.
The Marion singers, Girls Ensemble, Boys Ensemble and vocal soloists Isaac Baldwin, Jennifer Fruechting, Nick Meyer and Adam Kjellin all received “I” ratings.
Vocal soloists Shyla Harris and John Lind received “II” ratings as well as flutist Reann Hamm.
Piano students perform in April 20 recital in Marion’s Performing Arts Center

The piano students of Anita Hancock performed at a recital at the Performing Arts Center in Marion Saturday, April 20. Hancock teaches K-4 vocal music at Marion Elementary School and teaches piano lessons to about 30 students after school in her free time. Huffman makes pitch for ‘certified kitchen’ at lake hall

About a dozen people attended a public meeting at Marion County Lake Thursday to discuss the concept of a certified kitchen at the lake hall.Teresa Huffman, director of Marion County Economic Development, provided background information and what is going on statewide.
If the county commissioners approve the certified kitchen concept, she said, it would be only the third one in the state.
Commissioner Dan Holub said the kitchen can be used for a lot of different things.
“It can provide a site to do classes or be used as a culinary incubator to drive new start-up businesses,” he said.

Marion-Florence FFA meets for annual awards banquet

Members were recognized for their activities during the year and were presented numerous awards. Elizabeth Meyer was recognized as the Star Chapter Greenhand in production and Jacob Cope was recognized as the Chapter Star in placement.

HHS FFA members feted by district

Hillsboro FFA members Lauren Geis, Bryce Roberts and Nathan Unruh (from left) were recognized during the recent South Central District FFA banquet in Hutchinson. Geis was feted for winning the Equine Proficiency Award; Roberts, who served as district secretary, was recognized for winning the Sheep Proficiency Award; and Unruh was feted for winning the Diversified Crop and Beef Production Proficiency awards. All three received their state FFA degrees and will be recognized at the state convention at the end of May.
