Jordan hired as director of alumni relations at Tabor

Tabor College graduate Jeremy Jordan has been hired to serve as director of alumni relations at Tabor College.

Jordan graduated from Tabor College in 2005 with a degree in business administration with a marketing concentration.

He also was involved in music and theater.

“As a young alumnus of Tabor College, Jeremy is passionate about serving at Tabor College,” said Jim Elliott, vice-president for advancement.

“His knowledge of both the alumni and church constituencies, communication skills, and creativity will be great assets in his new role at Tabor.”

Prior to coming to Tabor, Jordan was an assistant manager of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Ames and Marshalltown, Iowa.

Overstake takes Tabor position

Former Hillsboro Star-Jour­nal editor Grant Overstake has been hired as director of communications at Tabor College.

Overstake, a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas, has worked as a reporter for the Wichita Eagle and Miami Herald.

Most recently, Overstake served as editor of the Hillsboro Star-Journal, where his work earned a dozen “Excellence in Newspaper Awards” from the Kansas Press Association.

Overstake, 50, also has served as an officer in The Salvation Army and as a pastor in the United Methodist Church.

Two of the four new teachers coming to Unified School District 410 this fall are not strangers to the Hillsboro community.

Chris Herbel, who lives in rural Lehigh, comes as a first-year teacher through the Marion County Special Educa­tion Cooperative. She will be the primary provider for a total of 18 students in the third and fourth grades who have an individualized education plan.

Herbel has family roots in this area, but grew up in Wichita and graduated with a business degree from Friends University in 1985. Already interested in teaching at the time, she eventually earned an elementary education degree through Tabor College...

Rod Garman, Marion Elementary School’s new principal, knows that a well-rounded education makes a person well-rounded. And there’s something to be said for being a well-rounded person.

Having completed a bachelor’s degree in communication with emphases in speech and drama and pre-law studies at Bethel College, Garman’s education enabled him to shift gears following his first year of law studies at Washburn University.
