Pictured above are the winners of a fishing derby hosted by the Centre Future Farmers of America Sept. 22, at Father Padilla Park in Herington: (from left) Dakota White, Jacob Kickhaefer, Jacob Howe and Gene Hanson. In the 6- to 9-year-old division, Jacob Howe placed first with most fish caught and the largest fish. Gene Hanson finished second. In the 10- to 12-year-old division, Dakota White placed first and Jacob Kickhaefer placed second.

Tabor enrollment pegged at 538 students

After 20 days of classes, Tabor College Wichita reports a full-time equivalent of 81 students, compared to 73 students at this time last year.

Fall enrollment at the Hillsboro campus, meanwhile, shows a full-time equivalent enrollment of 457 students. The enrollment last year at this time was 480.

“While the number of students is down slightly, we are pleased that our net revenues are higher than budgeted, due to a lower than anticipated discount rate on financial aid,” said Larry Nikkel, Tabor College president.

HHS FCCLA attends KC Fair

Students in attendance were Vik Bichet, Vanessa Ramero, Katrina Muzyka, Megan Chizek, Rhiannon Janzen, Evana Holtsclaw, Becky Steketee, Ashlyn Simmons and April Young.

Also attending were FCCLA sponsor Monica Leihy, her daughter Mary, and Ben Steketee and Mary Steketee.

“We all enjoyed a day of exploring the culture of the Renaissance time by dressing up in outfits that were related to the outfits that were worn back then,” Muzyka said. “Regardless of the warm weather, we still enjoyed the fun-filled day.”
