Tracy Hefley to lead church’s new daycare and preschool

The goal is to begin day care Aug. 1 and start preschool in mid-August to coincide with the start of public school.
“The Kids Connection board is excited about Tracy taking the director position,” said Kim Klein, board chair. “She has extensive experience in child care centers and comes to our project with much enthusiasm and exciting ideas for bringing Kids Connection and a Christian-based education to people in all walks of life in our community.”

GHS musicians qualify for state

Students from Goessel High School participated Saturday in the Kansas State High School Activities Association Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Festival at Tabor College in Hillsboro.The festival is a qualifying event for the state competition for solos and small ensembles. To qualify for state, a soloist or ensemble must receive a I rating.

HHS livestock team competes

Members evaluated eight classes of livestock consisting of cattle, sheep and hogs.
Ethan Frantz placed second in the greenhand division. In the senior division, Ty Goossen placed first overall with a score of 522 of a possible 550. The senior team of Goossen, Alex Jost, Jacob Fish and Brea Allen placed fourth.

Voth to present piano recital

Pianist Brandon Voth will perform his junior recital at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, at the Tabor College Chapel. The public is invited to attend.Voth, from Lynden, Wash., will perform the Prelude and Fugue in F Minor by J.S. Bach; Rhapsody in G Major (Op. 79, No. 2) by Johannes Brahms; and “Moonlight Sonata” (Op. 27, No. 2) by Ludwig van Beethoven.
“I chose these songs because of the passion interlaced within them,” Voth said. “Another reason for choosing the Beethoven sonata is that many people have heard the first movement, but have no idea there are two additional movements.”
Voth is a student of Sheila Schmitt, associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy.
