Goessel schools announce honor roll for nine weeks

Goessel Junior-Senior High School has released its 2012-13 honor roll for the second nine weeks.

Highest honors (4.00-3.75)

Marion schools find spelling winners

Regina Noonan (middle), a fourth-grader at Marion Elementary School won the MES spelling bee competition Friday, qualifying her for the Marion County bee at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 in Peabody. Second place went to Macy Sigel, also in fourth grade and Chloe Burkholder is the alternate. MES?Principal Justin Wasmuth presented the awards. The first-place winner at the Marion Middle School was seventh-grader Lindsey Sigel. Second place went to eighth-grader Jimi Dornbush; seventh-grader Nathan Young is this year’s alternate.

Tabor College musicians featured at Newton concert

Two Tabor College alumni will be featured performers at the upcoming Newton Mid-Kan­sas Orchestra Winter Classics Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in the Newton High School Auditorium, 900 W, 12th St.

Jesse Warkentin, pianist, singer, composer and musical director, will be the guest artist performing “Rhapsody in Blue,” the popular 1924 composition by George Gershwin.

Warkentin, a 2002 graduate of Tabor, is known for his work with Music Theatre of Wichita and Music Theatre for Young People.

The concert also will give the audience the opportunity to hear the winners of the 2012 Young Soloist Competition. Natalie Wiens, a Tabor College freshman and winner of the college division, will perform “Cello Concerto No. 1” by...
