Bartel receives auxiliary scholardship

Amy Bartel, a 2012 Hillsboro High School graduate, receives a $500 check May 28 from Velma Hadley, representing the Hillsboro Community Hospital Auxiliary. Hadley said the scholarship money was made possible because of the group’s fundraising efforts.

USD 410 Superintendent Steve Noble has become a big fan of trickle-down economics and Gov. Sam Brownback’s “dynamic scoring model” in recent weeks.

It’s not that he argues for the validity of approaches, but that their success may be public K-12 education’s only chance to avoid another round of major budget cuts in the light of the state’s new tax-cut legislation.

“If this doesn’t work, schools and other state agencies are going to be in trouble financially,” Noble said last week.

The bill Brown­back signed last month will cut individual income tax rates and exempts 191,000 partnerships, sole proprietorships and other businesses from income taxes.

Hillsboro High releases honor roll for final quarter

Hillsboro High School has released its honor rolls for the fourth quarter of the school year.

To qualify for high honors, students need a grade-point average of 4.00-3.7 to qualify for high honors, 3.69-3.2 for regular honors and 3.49-3.00 for honorable mention.

An asterisk (*) by a name indicates a 4.0 GPA.
