A second former McPherson College football player has been charged in the beating death of Tabor College student-athlete Brandon Brown.Dequinte Oshea Flournoy, 19, of Dallas, was charged Wednesday with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Police say Brown, 26, was found lying unconscious Sept. 16 after a fight at a party in McPherson.
Flournoy played football for McPherson College in 2011 but left the team in August. He is suspended from McPherson College, pending the outcome of the case. Bond has been set at $500,000.

HHS plans homecoming events

Hillsboro High School will celebrate homecoming with a parade downtown parade and pep rally starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The student body has selected candidates for homecoming queen and king.
The queen candidates are Maci Kelsey, Peyton Loewen, Tena Loewen, Heather Mayfield and Christina Morris.
Candidates for king are Harry Faber, Dylan Jirak, Tyler Proffitt, Lucas Sinclair and Josh Wiebe.
The crowning ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. at Joel H. Wiens Stadium.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Trojan After Prom Party group will host a tailgate meal at the stadium at 5:30 p.m.
The football game features Hillsboro and Remington and begins at 7 p.m.
Memorial gathering fills local church

Members of the Tabor College community—students, faculty, staff and residents of Hillsboro—gathered Sept. 25 at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church to celebrate the life of Brandon Brown and mourn his passing.Brown, a junior at Tabor College and a member of the football team, was originally from Sacramento and transferred to the school this fall.
Jules Glanzer, Tabor president, opened the memorial service by recognizing the grief, sadness and sense of loss and frustration the community is experiencing.
Glanzer said even though the community was hurting and the pain was real, people should know that God is caring and compassionate.
“God understands,” Glanzer said. “He too had a son and lost him to death.”

Future: I would like to study journalism, but I haven’t decided where yet.
