Hillsboro Middle School students competed for fun and funds during their Hoops for Heart event Friday in Brown Gymnasium. The event generated $2,600, including $500 from the HMS Site Council, to fight heart disease. Individual students who raised the most money were: Damian Rose $144, Connie Thorne $122 and Marshall Hoffner $110.

Students competed in several basketball-related activities, including the Figure 8 Race, Hot Shot, Knock Out, 10 Free Throws, Mikan...

FFA competes at poultry contest

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter participated in the South-central District Poultry Judging and Food Science Career Development Events on Feb. 13 at Marion High School.

Poultry judging includes evaluating the interior and exterior of eggs, evaluating and placing past production hens, identifying parts of chicken, evaluating carcasses and grading chicken parts....

HHS FCCLA competes at Newton

Hillsboro FCCLA attended District G Students Taking Action for Recognition events and elections Feb. 13 in Newton.

Katrina Muzyka was elected vice president of finance for 2008-09. Becky Steketee received a bronze in the Job Interview event. April Young received a silver rating for the Financial Planning event.

Members also helped with the events of the day. Viktoria Bichet was a student judge, Jayme Claassen and Brittany Davis were voting delegates for district officer selection and Ashlyn Simmons, Stephanie Abbott and Rhiannon Janzen attended as alternates.

 

GHS students selected for KMEA groups

Five students from Goessel High School will participate in the 2008 All-State Kansas Music Educators Association band or choir. For the Class 1234A State-Wide Honor Band, juniors Amy Brubaker and Laura Unruh were selected for the clarinet section and sophomore Kristen Hoffman was selected for the french horn section. Selected for the State Honor Choir were seniors Sara Sebring, soprano one, and Katie Flaming, alto one. Sebring and Brubaker were selected for the second year, and Flaming for her third.
