Goessel board accepts two resignations

The Goessel school board reluctantly accepted two teacher resignations at its March 3 meeting, which was held one week earlier than normal because of the timing of spring break this year.

Marc Grout, junior/senior high school principal, presented the two letters of resignation. The first one was from Bruce Stucky, highly respected junior high math and science teacher. Former educator Elaine Ewert Kroeker will present “Braids and Straw Hats: Teaching in Neuhof Hutterian Brethren School” at the 60-Plus Learning in Retirement Program at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center at Tabor College.

Kroeker, who graduated from Tabor in 1972 with a degree in elementary education, spent a week during her senior year living in White Rock Hutterite Colony in South Dakota, which sparked her lifelong interest in the Hutterites, a communal Anabaptist group with many colonies in the north-central United States.

In recent years she taught in the Neuhof Hutterian Brethren School near Mountain Lake., Minn.

Goessel Junior High students competed in the Heart of America League music festival March 4.

Students receiving “I+” ratings were: Braden Unruh, trumpet; Shane Goerzen, vocal; Alex Hiebert, vocal; Grant Flaming, trumpet; boys glee; girls glee.

Peabody-Burns scores at HOA music contest

Peabody-Burns Junior-Senior High School hosted the Heart of America League Junior High Music Festival on March 4.

The PBJH Band and the PBJH Choir received “I” ratings from the judges.

Ensembles receiving “I” ratings were: Woodwind Ensemble of Brandee Burnett, Kendra Harms, Lily Harris, McKenzie Ensminger, Alyssa Brooks and Seth Topham; Brass Ensemble of Brody Kyle, Mikayla Winter, Joe Partridge and Sarah Hofkamp; and the Mixed Vocal Trio of Mikayla Winter, Sarah Hofkamp and Seth Topham.

Soloists receiving “I” ratings were: Brandee Burnett, clarinet; McKenzie Ensminger, alto saxophone; Sarah Hofkamp, French horn and voice; Bethanny Loucks, flute; Nick Morgan, snare drum; and Seth Topham, baritone saxophone....

Arty Kurnitz (left), played by Dan Sigley, and his brother, Jay, played by Shane Miller, are beginning to wonder about their dear Aunt Bella, played by Tasheena Ruzinksy, as the actors rehearse for the Tabor College Drama Department's presentation of “Lost in Yonkers.” Public performances will be at 7:30 p.m., March 6, 7 and 8 in the Theater Lab located on the first floor of the H.W. Lohrenz Building on the college campus. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students. Seating is limited. For tickets, call Student Development at 947-3121 ext. 1033.
