Centre FFA collects 19 pints during May 7 blood drive

The goal was to collect 29 pints of blood, said Laura Klenda, FFA advisor. Student or staff member who donated were treated to breakfast. The breakfast choices included pizza, pulled pork or brisket. Centre FFA team fifth at state CDE in Manhattan

The Centre FFA Agriculture Communications team placed fifth at the Kansas FFA State Career Development events April 30 and May 1 in Manhat­tan.

According to Laura Klenda, ag education and FFA adviser, areas that were represented included agriculture mechanics, agribusiness management, ag communications, agriculture sales, dairy cattle evaluation, dairy foods, food science, entomology and livestock evaluation.

Carrie Carlson placed 10th in agribusiness management and the ag communications team of Theo Kassebaum, Kevin Lewis and Ty Simons placed fifth.

Other members who participated were Tom Oborny, Jerami Slayden, Braden Pagenkopf, Justin Deines, Makenzie Deines, Kaylenn Miller, Bryanna Svoboda, Dani Spohn, Justin Bina, Chad Mueller...

Weber honored for academic work at HHS

CourtneyWeber Weber Courtney Weber, a Hillsboro High School senior, has been recognized for her academic work through two programs.

She was selected for this year’s $500 scholarship from the Alpha Omerga Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma for the coming school year.

The award is presented to a female high school senior or college student attending a college in Kansas in pursuit of a major in education.

Weber, daughter of Eddie and Connie Weber, will attend Emporia State University this fall and major in education.

On May 6, Weber attended Gov. Sam Brownback’s Scholars Awards Program honoring the top academic 1 percent of Kansas high school seniors.

Scholars are selected from accredited state, public and private schools.

Eighteen students perform in April 29 piano recital

Eighteen piano students of Beverly Richards participated in a recital April 29 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

Performers were Keighlee Armstrong, Caleb and Sarah Diener, Kelli Dyck, Quinton Hett, Claire and MaryElene Heyen, Jenna Hinerman, Adam Kjellin, Abby, Katie and Lydia Kliewer, Charlie and Grace Major, Ellie and Eva Noble, Macy Priest and Cayley Settle.

Assisting in duets were Tammy Armstrong, Glen Diener, Gail Dyck, Bruce and Claire Heyen, Tamera Hinerman and Richards.

 

Klassen awarded Ford FFA scholarship

Aaron Klassen, a Hillsboro High School senior, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship last week by Hillsboro Ford owners Randy Hagen (left) and Terry Hagen. The Built Ford Tough-FFA Scholarship Program is designed to recognize FFA members’ talents and accomplishments while encouraging their future academic achievements. Klassen plans to attend Kansas State University next fall and study agriculture technology management.
