I was afraid that with more Obama and his like, the economy was going down the tubes. It might be time to sell stocks, and hoard cash.

But, with what sense I still had, I asked Cousin Jim what he thought. Jim is only four months younger than me, but unlike me, he is totally retired after a career as a bank officer and stock broker.

I hate to admit it, but when you look...

For example, I have chalked up almost six decades of experience, strength and optimism, which hopefully can be useful to my family and maybe others.

Randy and I are also grateful for our three children.?We realize that whatever they choose to do as adults is out of our control, and yet we will always love them and be proud of them.

Looking back on our child-rearing days, I think we did the best we could, with few regrets. For us, it was important to know we gave as...

The time to seek improved economic growth in Marion County can’t wait for a more practical time in the future.

Marion County needs a concentration on base industry that has a multiplier effect to create secondary businesses such as retailers. The rules of economics dictate that a basic industry job, such as a farmer or a worker in the Hillsboro Industrial Park, can generate as many as seven other jobs in services such as retailing.

Marion County lost another 1,000 people in population in the last census. The county dropped to more than 12,000 people this census from the former level of more than 13,000. The county had more than 20,000 persons at the beginning of the 1950s.

Fall stimulates rise in enthusiasm

The opposite is true for husband Randy. He loves summer. It’s a time for him to putter in the yard and work on his many outside hobbies.

As soon as he gets home from work, he changes clothes and out the door he goes until it’s dark, forcing him to retreat inside until the next day.

Autumn has always been my favorite season. I think the reason is because I equate very happy times with September, October and November.

By the calendar, fall doesn’t actually begin until...
