Chance of this war was remote

It was dueling remotes at the Klaassen household this past week. This has never happened before and I hope it never happens again.

It all started the other night when I dozed off in the recliner. I must have hit one of the buttons on the remote by accident in my sleepy stupor, which will make sense in just a bit.

When I awoke and it was time to watch again, I wasn’t able to change channels without the channel going somewhere I didn’t intend for it to go. This went on for several minutes and a lot of muttering went on during this time.

Soon Nancy appeared from the front bedroom where she had been watching the other TV and couldn’t make the remote work correctly either.

It took a while, but we discovered that the remote had set the Dish mode to single instead of dual. Apparently the dual mode is what we have had since we got the satellite TV years ago. And in single, both TVs have the same thing on and each remote controls both TVs.

Do you think I could find the right button on the remote to switch back to dual? Of course not. After many futile attempts I just went to my computer and searched for how to set Dish to dual mode. Once that was accomplished it was back to normal. If that ever happens again I doubt whether we will survive it.

I wrote recently about putting your pants on one leg at a time. This next experience falls into that category, I think.

Have you ever ripped a toenail half off by putting your jeans on by mistake? I’ll explain.

We came home from the KU-KSU game a few weeks ago and I started to pull off all of the layers of shirts I had been wearing to keep warm during the afternoon. I guess I got in the groove and removed my jeans also.

Since it wasn’t time to go to bed, I quickly put my jeans back on—and that’s when the trouble started.

My foot became caught in the leg opening with a toenail getting caught in the bottom seam. From all of the torque, the nail was ripped about half off and my foot was stuck in that position. After hopping around for a while, I finally got everything loose. I’ll bet you couldn’t do this even if you tried.

An old recurrence at our household involves me not hearing exactly what is being said.

Many years ago when we were in Hesston, someone suggested we should eat at the Colonial House. I thought I heard the Toenail House. It didn’t make sense then. Still doesn’t.

The Marion vs. Hillsboro football game the other night did not disappoint—although for some, it did.

The Warriors came to play and I thought were coached very well. Records can be thrown out of the window when these two teams play. Both teams deserve to continue in the playoffs and it will happen if both teams win next week.

In compiling our veterans book, we were seeking avenues to find more information about some of the veterans whose information was incomplete.

If anyone needs assistance, I have the forms that were given to me by Sen. Moran’s office; his office has said they will submit them on your behalf if you wish. Just stop by our office and I’ll share what I have. Or e-mail my address below.
