Letters to the Editor (Week of October 7, 2015)

The killing urge is within evil hearts

It was just 18 days ago we learned of a college shooting in Mississippi that took the life of Professor Ethan Schmidt, and our entire town, along with many other people, are still in mourning over it.

And now, there is another college shooting, this time in Oregon, with devastating results. The leader of our nation came on TV to tell us the reason why: The gun, a piece of metal that is inanimate, non-thinking and non-living, is at fault.

This very day people are being killed in Syria and their leader wants us to know that it is the fault of the missiles.

In time past, we blamed the Indians for killing settlers, but it was the fault of the pieces of wood and string and flint arrowheads.

Further back in history we see Romans, Alexander, Napoleon, Khan killings, but it is the fault of the sword, those pieces of metal, ivory, bone-shaped into swords.

And we can go back to the beginning of mankind on Earth. ?Now Cain talked with Abel his brother and when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him? (Gen. 4:8). It was the rock?s fault.

Leaders tell us it is the fault of a rock, a sword, a bow and arrow, a missile, a gun. Therefore, all the innocent, righteous people need to get rid of rocks, swords, bows, missiles and guns.

This part of the U.S. still carries the name ?Bible Belt,? and it is to these people in particular I am addressing this letter. Our warfare is not against flesh and blood, those who would kill with rocks to guns, and ever other evil invention in between.

Our warfare is against the evil demonic powers of this age who have come out of hiding and are openly killing Christians and any human they can because we are made in the image of God.

We are to take hold of the whole armor of God. Those in the Bible Belt need to cinch up that belt and ?stand therefore having girded your waist with truth? (Eph. 5:11-18.)

The truth is we kill because of our sin. Closely read the truth in Gen. 4:6-7. Rocks and guns do not kill people?we kill people and the fault is not in the stars, the fault is in ourselves.

Furthermore, Bible believers, our King tells us this demonic activity is the devil, who was a murderer from the beginning and is the father of murder and lies (John 8:42-44).

Our King tells us he shall judge between the nations and rebuke many people, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, nor lift up sword against each other anymore? (Isaiah 2:4).

This is the real hope we have of ending all murders, killings and torture of flesh?ridding ourselves of sin and the guns will be molten down into plowshares and pruning hooks. Maranatha!
