for giving your blood
On behalf of the hospitals and patients served by American Red Cross blood services, thank-you to all the generous donors who turned out to give blood at the Parkview MB?Church Dec. 7. We had 49 people who responded to the need in our community and throughout the country.
The next drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Hillsboro High School. You may make an appointment to give by calling 1-800-733-2767 or go online at redcrossblood.org.

Why are we all so rude these days?
Has anyone noticed how rude we all are? Like when there is a yellow floor placard telling you to be careful because the floor is wet and slippery? Most people think that doesn’t refer to them, or think it’s against their constitutional rights to slow down.
Or when you open the door for yourself and two young hoodlums 15 feet from the door think you opened the door for them and almost knock you horizontal in their rush to get in at the same time.
Have you ever done roadwork—patching potholes, laying asphalt, etc? You learn the sound of a vehicle coming that has blown past the “Slow down, work crew ahead” signs with the three orange flags on top of each one. Road workers know the public thinks they are there for the sole purpose of slowing down drivers and that their lives have no meaning to the public.
This even happens here in town. We are all in a hurry to get our errands done, but please ease up for the person in the street or the older people opening their own door.
It would be great if everyone showed a more respect for everyone else. I’m talking to me, too.
