Holub responds to political inquiriesI have been receiving inquiries the last three to four weeks from acquaintances saying they have been approached by people from a local community requesting to find out when my term as county commissioner is up and if I intend to run again. To make it simple for everyone, my term is up in 2012 and, yes I intend to run again.
However, I have been approached about running for state representative. I haven't said no, but it depends on how things turn out on a couple of pending issues before I'd make that decision.
If anyone has any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I’m in the phone book.

Now work begins to save money on jailCounty officials now have the means to finance the new jail construction. Their real work now begins as they finalize the building design.
The sales tax issue basically provides the maximum amount to be spent on the jail. It does not set the minimum nor does it mandate that all of the tax revenue has to be spent. Less can be spent and the tax would end earlier.
Every detail of the design must be reviewed and any unnecessary items removed. This includes the large items as well as the small $5 type items.
Everything must be questioned. Do we need this many cells? Can we use 36-inch ceiling fans instead of 54-inch? Do we need all the offices, conference rooms, recreation areas, storage areas...

Closing of day caregenerates questions
As we all have heard, Kids Connection daycare and preschool is being forced by the church to close its doors in as little as two months. As a parent of children that go there, I am so saddened that such a wonderful thing for our community children will no longer be.
Along with being sad, I am very angry. As parents, we were never even informed that there were “reasons” to close this facility until after the closing announcements were already made. The Kids Connection staff couldn’t even answer our questions because they were not properly informed of what was going on.
Couldn’t we have tried to maybe resolve these problems, if we had been informed of what was going on? Couldn’t we...

Hillsboro?does not want the county seatA reporter on the Marion County Record’s website last week anonymously quoted “a prominent Marion resident” as saying “prominent interests in Hillsboro were opposed to the tax and new jail it would help finance because ‘they want to get the county seat away from Marion.’”
Either the reporter gullibly took the person’s joke as a serious comment, or the person quoted is sadly misinformed. In my 27 years as mayor, I have never been involved in, or aware of, any discussion suggesting that Hillsboro should try to become the county seat, much less manipulate an election toward such an end.
I would hope anyone who read that comment would see it for what it is: absolute...

Second disabilities meeting plannedOn behalf of Parents as Advocates for Individuals with Disabilities (PAID of Marion County) we would like to thank those folks who attended our public forum Feb. 17 in Hillsboro.
Thank-you to the city of Hillsboro for allowing us to use the west room of their city building to meet. Everyone gave up the beautiful outdoors that evening to come and listen and bring their ideas to the table.
It was a wonderful meeting of community members of our county. Parents attended who had children with disabilities who were even as young as 2 years old.
Parents are thinking ahead, and their interest at this point in their children’s lives is a testament to Marion County. They plan to reside here for the...
