Watch out for NAFTA ‘super highway’

Someone had an article about his dislike of Daylight Saving Time in the Free Press. I have to write about something that will destroy our United States of America and also destroy our beloved Kansas. Every day I see people walking around town as though they do not know the danger.

Construction is now underway in Texas on a massive “North American Free Trade NAFTA Super-highway” that will eventually spider-web foreign-owned toll roads across Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Homes, ranches and farms throughout Texas are subject to the 90-day quick-take provision of the state’s harsh and unfair “eminent domain” law to make way for this globalist monstrosity.

This is all a...

Clothing ministry will need new place

The Shepherd’s Shed Free Clothing Storehouse will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. Come in and get your spring and summer clothing.

This will be the last time I will be open in this location. The building has sold and I need to relocate by April 16.

I’ve had the blessing of serving the needs of Marion County for the past four years by offering clothing to those that may not have had it otherwise.

I’ve given clothing to foster children, families that have lost their belongings to fire, senior citizens, people in need because of unemployment, Marion-Florence schools, The Marion Community Christmas Program—and the list goes on and on.

Thanks to all of you that...

Peabody citizens need to monitor council

At its March 10 meeting, the Peabody City Council sent a message loud and clear to our community and all department heads employed by the city.

Two councilmen and the mayor tried their best to maneuver through the obstacles and smoke screen put before them Monday night by the Peabody Main Street Association. The mayor recommended the council wait until all members could be present to review salaries and the “memorandum of understanding and agreement,” which they have not received.

The mayor advised a council member to abstain from voting because she was a member of the MSA board. The mayor said there could be an ethics question and a backlash from the community. The member said she...

Daylight Saving Time is the real WMD

I used to think Americans had become a laughingstock to the rest of the world because of Daylight Saving Time: “We save daylight by changing our clocks.” I didn’t understand, and neither did they, that cutting off the bottom of a sheet and sewing it onto the top actually does not make the sheet longer.

I used to think if businesses wanted to start an hour earlier, they could do so voluntarily, and if it was a good thing it would catch on. That was then. Now that I’m older and wiser I realize that scientists and politicians have developed technology that is able to legislate the solar system.

By adding daylight, or should I say saving daylight, we can become more productive as...

Truck drivers aren’t endangering kids

In regard to the article written about the Marion City Council meeting, principally the truck traffic issue, one comment was made about endangering children who play in that area.

The truck drivers that use that facility are respected community members. Most are loving involved parents and uncles. They are careful and attempt to be as considerate as they can. They are our friends and neighbors. They are out all week, sometimes two or three weeks, working hard so their families have a good income and that everyone in America can get the goods they need.

All they ask is for a safe place to park their trailers while they spend a few precious hours with their families. But to assume that...
