It was striking to watch last week as the Hillsboro Community Foundation distributed $16,300 to 11 worthy organizations from its Hillsboro Area Impact Fund and Kansas Health Foundation Fund. That’s $4,300 more funding this year than was awarded last year. It’s clear the dividends are paying off—in terms of growth in the endowment earnings, but more so in the assistance HCF is able to pass on to valuable programs that meet so many needs, ranging in age from children to seniors.
We salute the foundation board for its hard work in making this endeavor so successful. What long-term impact will these funds make in the lives of those who benefit from them? We may never be able to measure it fully, but it’s clear that many lives will be made better in the short run, and that’s certainly an investment worth making. —DR
