?Fun Day? will focus lake safety

In an effort to jumpstart the summer and get recreation safety fresh in everyone?s mind, Safe Kids Marion County, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and local law enforcement and emergency response agencies have planned a fun day for the whole family during the first day of National Safe Boating Week.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Cottonwood Point Campground, at Marion Reservoir.

Activities will include a couple different bicycle relays; children are welcome to bring their own bikes.

The Corps Mascot, Bobber the Water Safety Dog, will be making an appearance. Bobber will show everyone the fun side of water safety.

There will be a children?s identification station for families to visit and take home a fun souvenir by local law enforcement agencies.

People can bring their boats out to any of the boat ramps for free inspections by Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, services for car seat checks will be available and

Local Firefighters will be there with a fire truck to show the children a working fire hose in action.

The first 500 people will get a free lunch provide by community support. Families that take part in the activities will have the chance to win a free bicycle and other great giveaways will be handed out to participants.
