Deadline nears for Impact Fund grant applications

The Hillsboro Community Foundation is accepting applications for grant funds to be distributed in 2013 from the Hills­boro Area Impact Fund.

Organizations may apply that are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and serve Hillsboro and surrounding communities.

Application forms can be downloaded from hillsborofree­press.com or cityofhillsboro.net, or picked up from Eileen Unruh at The Insurance Center at 105 S. Main, Hillsboro. The deadline for submission is Nov. 16.

Youth raise $721 for Christmas fund

Lego Man made an appearance along Hillsboro’s Grand Avenue during Trick or Treat Main Street on Halloween last Wednesday. With near-perfect weather, the turnout was strong for candy and other goodies. For a photo slideshow of the event, go to hillsborofreepress.com under “Breaking News.”

Three little Jack o’?Lanterns are a sure sign that Halloween is upon us. For children in Marion County that means a fun night of trick-or-treating. In Hillsboro, Trick-or-Treat Main Street is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with many downtown merchants participating by handing out candy. In Marion, children are invited to Trick or Treat Main Street businesses from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in Peabody, Trunk and Treat will also be a place where candy is distributed to children from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
