School board undecided on central facility

The Board of Education for Unified School District 410 received the green light to authorize “the offering for sale of general obligation bonds” for three of the four facility improvement projects approved in the bond election.Superintendent Doug Huxman reported that an agreement had been reached between litigation parties so that bonds for $4.605 million—the “non-Tabor portion” of the election—can be sold.

Concerns about water drainage problems in residential yards after significant rainfall continued to gather at Hillsboro City Council meetings like...well, water in residential yards after significant rainfall.Nine residents from the west side of South Wilson Street met with the council during its Aug. 7 meeting to express their frustration with inadequate drainage in their backyards.
This was the third time since June that residents from different areas of town had met with the council to voice similar concerns.

County hires new director for EMS

After a 30-minute executive session on personnel, Marion County Commission chairman Randy Dallke announced the hiring of Steve Smith as the county’s director of Emergency Medical Services, effective Aug. 27.Dallke said Smith begins with a salary of $31,000, and, following an evaluation after the first six months, will receive a $1,000 raise.
In the meantime, Gene Winkler is serving as interim director.
Winkler agreed to $1,000 per month for a minimum of three hours daily in the office and on call 24/7 after meeting with the commissioners met in executive session.
In his report, Winkler said he had saved the county $2,500 by negotiating with Alltel to replace the analog phones with digital ones.
