Anonymous donor gives MSM a ton of potatoes

Two-hundred 10-pound bags were transported to the facility by Nuss driving a forklift. The food bank at Main Street Ministries received an anonymous donation of potatoes.

Dale Nuss, chairman of the Main Street board, delivered the ton of potatoes using a forklift as Leah Rose, food bank director, and Lavonne Carrington, director, looked on.

The gift of potatoes was a welcome sight, Rose said.

“Our (food) shelves are OK this week,” she said, “but we have reached our spending limit as far as making purchases to fill in the gaps.”

Marion home tour will raise funds for city library

MarionHomeTourSkiles726 Belinda and Bruce Skiles of Marion agreed to be part of the 12th annual Marion City Library’s Christmas Home Tour. Visitors to their home will get a historic look at a stone house built in the late 1800s with unique holiday decorations both inside and outside their home. Now in its 12th year, the Marion City Library Christmas Home Tour will be showcasing homes with all proceeds benefiting the library, said Janet Marler, director.

This year’s event is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, and includes four homes with refreshments served at the library. Tickets are $5 and will be available at each home the day of the event.

Featured on the tour, Marler said, is the home of Scott and Rolana Heidebrecht, 219 N. Third St.; Garry and Sharlyn Dunnegan, 41 Lakeshore, Marion County Lake and formerly Kingfisher’s Inn; Vickie Kraus, 307 Elm and Bruce and Belinda Skiles, 1914 Quail Creek.

Jeanice Thomas, one of the tour organizers, offered a brief description of the homes on the tour.

Deadline nears for Impact Fund grant applications

The Hillsboro Community Foundation is accepting applications for grant funds to be distributed in 2013 from the Hills­boro Area Impact Fund.

Organizations may apply that are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and serve Hillsboro and surrounding communities.

Application forms can be downloaded from hillsborofree­press.com or cityofhillsboro.net, or picked up from Eileen Unruh at The Insurance Center at 105 S. Main, Hillsboro. The deadline for submission is Nov. 16.

The Impact Fund is an unrestricted grant fund created by the generosity of individuals who have contributed to this endowment. Grants will not be limited to a particular issue or target population.

Youth raise $721 for Christmas fund

Weather draws large turnout for treats
