The Senior Citizens of Marion County Inc. is inviting the public to join them in celebrating their formation of the organization 50 years ago.
The celebration is taking place Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Marion Senior Center. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. The Friendship Meal will be served at noon and the program will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Speakers will be two former directors of the Marion County Department for Elderly, Joyce Clark and Noreen Weems. They will share their memories of working with the board in establishing programs for senior citizens in Marion County.
A slide presentation on the history of the organization will be part of the program.
The free-will offering this year will go toward establishing a scholarship for a Marion County 2011 high school senior who plans on going into a field related to aging, such as medicine, social work, therapies (physical, speech, occupational, recreational), gerontology and psychology.
To register for the event, contact the Marion County Department on Aging or your local senior center. Cost of registration is $5 per person and the deadline is Friday, Oct. 15.
