“I was thinking it would be fun to do something for the community, something local where they could have some ownership of it and say, ‘This is our radio station; it’s music we can log in and listen to anytime we want.’”
Vogel pulled together the playlist that includes more than 230 seasonal songs that cover a broad range of style.
“It’s anywhere from Bing Crosby to Justin Beber—it’s a wide variety,” Vogel said. “It’s got all the classics, like Sinatra. It’s got more modern styles from current pop singers. There are some Christian artists doing some Christmas classics. It just runs the gamut.”
The musical options also include performances from the Tabor College, Hillsboro High School and Marion High School choirs and bands.
“The thing that kind of sparked it was I wanted to showcase the local choirs and bands from the schools,” Vogel said. “I contacted them and almost all of them said, ‘Yes, let’s do it.’ They’ll rotate through the week.”
Vogel did the legwork to develop the playlist and purchase the music as needed. The programming is being sponsored by Hillsboro Ford and Midway Motors in addition to the Hillsboro Free Press.
“I wasn’t looking to make money,” he said. “I didn’t want to pay for all of it out of pocket and thought they could have a little extra advertising out there over the holiday season.”
