About 105 runners turned out Saturday morning for the fourth annual Great Pumpkin Race sponsored by First Mennonite Church in downtown Hillsboro. The event included a 5-kilometer route through the streets of town followed by a half-mile for kids. In the top photo, the kids take off on a dead run for their out-and-back race along East Grand Avenue. Eight-year-old Grayson Ratzlaff posted the winning time among the boys at 2 minutes, 41 seconds. Tiffany Schale, 10, was the first girl to finish. She posted a time of 2:51.
In the 5K, Kyle Shults of Wichita was the overall winner in a time of 18:56 and Donna Spoonmore was the top female in 22:06. All participants were encouraged to dress up in costumes for Halloween.
