The work begins
Written by Hillsboro Free Press Tuesday, 21 February 2012 14:33
AT LEFT: Workers with Vogts-Parga Construction of Newton were cutting concrete at the intersection of Washington and A streets Monday as a first step in replacing one block of A Street between Main and Washington streets. RIGHT: As a precautionary measure,
city crew blocked off the sidewalk just north of the project to keep pedestrians away from the abandoned brick building at 128 S. Main. City officials said the precautionary measure was taken out of concern that the deteriorating structure could collapse from the vibration of heavy equipment working nearby. City Administrator Larry Paine said Monday the city has discussed the future of the building, but no formal action to remove it has been taken.
